Why do people think it's so hard to get full eating raw foods? The fact is, it doesn't take as much to fill me up now because what I am eating is full of living vital nutrients. The enzymes are still in tact so my body gets the full benefit from what I am consuming. I don't have "hunger pains" like I did before I started eating raw foods. When I eat now (and I'm not hungry) I automatically run through what is going on with me emotionally. Food is definitely something I use to comfort myself. The good thing about the food I'm eating now is that it will not have a detrimental affect on my body like ice-cream, cookies or my former all time favorite cheese, crackers and duck salami or some other meat. And I usually can't eat a lot of what I'm trying to because my body doesn't want it. Now, I reach for a banana or a mango or a cucumber or some celery... you get the picture.
Another thing I'm ALWAYS asked about is "What about your protein?" What about it... where do you think animals get their protein from... the plants (grass) they eat. Why not go to the source to get your protein instead of eating the flesh of animal. Our bodies are a complex creation made to create EVERYTHING we need in order for it to function properly. But you have to put living food in your body for this to happen. If you keep eating dead things your body is going to manifest death in the form of illness and disease. I believe that diseases are NOT hereditary. The reason you keep seeing the same diseases from one generation to the next is because of the lifestyle that is passed from one generation to the next. You are eating the same diet, probably dealing with some of the same emotional issues and operating in the same environment as your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. If you do the same thing those before you did, you will get the same results.
So today I had a fruit smoothie with a tablespoon of Ultra Greens powder. I used some frozen fruit that I bought fresh then cut up and put in the freezer. Pineapples, strawberries, a few blueberries, one banana and some fresh squeezed orange that I juiced myself. I ate a raw granola bar later but my body wasn't digging that today. I drank my filtered water from my glass bottle... still got one more bottle to drink. Today I made another discovery with a salad using raw mustard greens (the curly kind that looks like kale). How many of you know that mustard greens are little spicy? Yes, they have a little bite to them. You know that hot flash you get when you eat wasabi? That's the spicy I'm talking about. If I had cooked them, I would've never made that discovery. There is one draw back for me personally eating a raw diet... my freakin' libido is through the roof! I need to join a fitness club and start exercise to burn up some of this energy. Until next time, stay healthy and wealthy!

Pat Greers Raw Vegan Kitchen
I was so excited last night when I found a raw foods restaurant using Yelp in Houston! So needless to say, my mission today along with running a few errands was to get to Pat Greer's before she closed at 3:00 pm because the sister doesn't do the weekend thing... she is CLOSED! The store is located in 4th ward so I had a general idea where her place was. So it's a little after 2:00 and I head for the hills. I also had a conference call at 2:00... which was no biggie, just dial in. So I feel my way through downtown to 4th ward, find Taft Street (perfect), then start looking for W. Clay. There's West Gray but I don't see W. Clay and I can't call because I'm on a conference call! OK, the conference call ends a few minutes after 3:00 pm and even though her closing time is 3:00 pm I am determined to find the shop. I call, they answer and she says, "Oh, come on by... we're going to be here for a while." Thank you Jesus!
It's a house that been converted into a store... nothing fancy but the food! Yummie! They have samples of almost everything they make so of course I tried a few samples after a "little" coaxing and decided on the coconut pecan cookies. If you like coconuts and pecans you will LOVE this cookie. Pure goodness... my only regret is that I bought just ONE bag. For my entree, I decided to try their lasagna. Another grand slam hit with me. The "meat" was delicious and the cheeze has a really nice creaminess to it. I also bought some chocolate pie which I will have that tomorrow! Once I replenish my funds, I will be going back!
Check our her website and definitely pay her a visit. It's worth every penny!

Raw Food Restaurants
I struck pay dirt in Houston with the ONLY stand alone Raw Foods store that also serves raw food meals. "Pat Greer's Vegan Kitchen is the closest source of locally produced eco-logically friendly vegetables/fruits/nuts in the inner loop community within which is included Houston: (Houston Heights, Montrose, Upper Kirby, River Oaks, Museum District, Third Ward Houston, East End, and so on."
In this blurb I took from the website it says inner loop but for me it also includes the outer loop as well. I plan on paying the store a visit tomorrow to check our their fare in person!
I did come across a Raw Food Chef, Renee Herndon, giving a demonstration at Whole Foods Market in Sugarland but she does not have a restaurant. She offers raw food meal service and demonstrations. You can check her out at http://www.rawveggies4ever.com.

Raw Simplicity
One thing I have come to appreciate about being a Raw Vegan is the simplicity of this lifestyle. Reading Alissa Cohen's "Living on Live Food" has inspired me to experiment with simple ideas... like apples! I took a golden delicious apple, cored it and cut the slices into thinner pieces. I took the slices and separated them onto three dessert plates and let my imagination flow which led me to my spice cabinet. I grabbed the celtic salt, curry powder, a vanilla bean and some raw honey. One plate of apples was sprinkled with celtic salt, a familiar taste (salty/sweet). The next plate was sprinkled with curry... a nice combination especially if you're a fan of curry. The earthiness of the curry pairs very well with the sweetness of the apple. Finally, for the last plate of apples I took the vanilla bean and opened it carefully to get to the black beans. With a spoon, I scooped out the beans and rubbed the apples with the raw vanilla beans then drizzled a bit of raw honey over them. Absolutely divine! The vanilla beans and honey add a richness to the sweet of the apple.
Last night I had a taste for some "Asian" fare so I sliced a medium sized avocado, one roma tomato and took a handful of broccoli sprouts (sounds more like a Mexican dish but stay with me), arranged them in a bowl then added a few dashes of Nama Shoyu... I was in heaven with the first bite! No mixing or measuring, just enjoying the tastes of each food enhanced by the Nama Shoyu.
Once I get my dehydrator I will experiment with more dishes and try out some of the "bread & crackers" recipes. Food has never tasted this good before!

Houston's Raw Food Scene
I was actually teetering about whether I would be a pure raw foodie or just do the vegan thing. At least as a vegan, I would still be able to eat cooked veggies. Well, today I chose a side and decided to go all the way RAW!
What solidified the decision for me is "Living on Live Food" by Alissa Cohen. I started reading her book today and it made my teetering dissipate. The testimonials shared in her book are amazing which fully convinced me of my choice. I really want to experience the best that raw food has to offer so I am jumping in with both feet.
The internet has led me to some wonderful raw food websites but I want to find some local restaurants/stores I can browse around in besides Whole Foods Market. I am finding some wonderful restaurants on the East Coast and West Coast (especially California) but it is slim pickings here in Houston, TX. I did find out there is a Houston Co-Op that offers locally grown organic fruits & vegetables. Paying them a visit is definitely on my "To Do List" for this week. There is also a Houston Raw Food Meetup Group I joined a couple of days ago (www.meetup.com) and I'll be attending the next event which I am looking forward to!
So far, no purely Raw Food restaurants that I can find here in the fair city of Houston. Sounds like an invitation for some road trips!

Challenge
As I was cleaning out my email inbox, I came across the response email from our dear brother, Charles Thompson. At the end of his very passionate response, he outlined the experience and skills he has to offer to anyone who chooses to avail themselves of his abilities and knowledge.
I have a personal testimony and some "new" experiences I would like to share with everyone. Several years ago I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids... a condition that is too prevalent among African-American women. It is typically caused by over production of estrogen as well as too much stress in your life. In October 2009 when I went for my well-woman visit, my doctor was very adamant about me having surgery to remedy this situation. She went on to explain the dangers of my condition which included a possible heart attack. As she was running down the litany of associated conditions my current condition would most assuredly cause (which prompted her to send me to get some blood work done to "verify" her concerns), there was peace in my heart and soul. When the test results came back, everything she knew I was suffering from was not the case. My cholesterol (LDL-the bad one) was too high but I knew God has a remedy in the earth that would heal me completely and totally.
Well my brothers and sisters, I have come to realize through research and a lifestyle change that the cure is the same as the curse (cause). It is what I was eating. Many of us don't realize that we are killing ourselves because the "food" we are consuming has been stripped of its nutritional value and loaded with toxins. The way "food" is preserved is by adding chemicals which we have been ingesting (poisons) that our bodies were never meant to consume. Our bodies are telling us that what we are consuming is not good. How you wonder is our body telling us... diabetes, hypertension, cancer, inflammation in the body, water retention, weight gain, aches and pains. These are NOT signs of getting old or diseases that are hereditary but signs that our bodies are not receiving the proper nutrients it needs to maintain a healthy environment. One MAJOR nutrient we do not consume enough of is WATER! You can live without food for 40 days and 40 nights (Matthew 4:2) but you can't live without a potable, sufficient supply of water for more than 10 days and that's if you are in exceptional health (http://www.survivaltopics.com/survival/how-long-can-you-survive-without-water/). You don't believe me?
I put this challenge before you... for one (1) week consume at least half of your body weight in water ( in ounces) but no less than 64 oz. a day. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs. you should drink 100 oz. of water per day. I know, you're not thirsty... by the time thirst sets in, you're probably at the point of dehydration. Add some fresh lemon juice to your water if you don't want to drink it plain. Also, cut out all white products (sugar, flour, rice, pasta, dairy) in your diet. Now realize this, if you cut sugar from your diet you are cutting canned and boxed food items as well (read the labels). So you have to go with fresh or frozen. I know what some of you are thinking, "That's too much of a hassle and probably too expensive to eat like that." Well, here is the alternative... you will continue to gain weight, you will continue to get sick, you will continue giving your money to the doctor to "practice" medicine on you and pump you full of synthetic drugs (poison) that only treat symptoms but never heal you. If you accept this challenge, you will suffer because you are addicted to sugar and you don't know it. More than likely, you will have cravings that are so intense accompanied by some headaches (I know I did).
As of today, I am no longer an eater of white products, animals or any animal by-products. When I started this journey on January 7th, it was simply to participate in a Fasting Revival... seeking God for a closer walk with him. But as time ticked away and the layers begin to fall away (physically and spiritually), a new me and a new mind began emerging and is still emerging. Today I am 23 lbs. lighter because I chose not to eat the king's food (industrial, processed, genetically altered or manipulated).
I challenge you all to "heal" yourself with the manna from heaven... every green plant, every seed-bearing plant and every tree whose fruit contains seed. Get your Eden body back (Gen. 1:29-30) Check out my website: http://www.nakedrawtruth.com for more information on "Finding better ways to live a healthy life"!
